30 Most Violent Movies

1The Wild Bunch (1969)

The Movie: Just about the coolest Western not starring Clint Eastwood, director Sam Peckinpah’s depiction of a gang of outlaws living on the Texas-Mexico border garnered controversy thanks to its graphic violence and rough-hewn characters.

The Violence: Just watch the bullets fly during the film’s infamously bloody finale, when the eponymous bunch bring down swathes of Mexican soldiers – and barely even blink an eye.

Reaction: Critic Robert Ebert summed it up well when he talked of the response to the film, sating it was “praised and condemned with equal vehemence”. Robert Ryan’s performance was much-lauded, but the violence left a bad taste in many audience members’ mouth
